Jan Šikl

Composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist Jan Šikl began studying composition at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and completed his formal training under Otomar Kvěch at the Prague Conservatory. His rich oeuvre spans a vast stylistic landscape—moving effortlessly between classical music, jazz, world music, traditional folk, as well as scores for theater and film.

His compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles such as the Berg Orchestra, the South Czech Philharmonic, and the Epoque Quartet. As an arranger, he has collaborated with the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), the Unique Orchestra, and others, while also serving as an arranger and conductor for the Floex Ensemble.

At the very heart of Šikl’s artistic output lies his theatrical and stage work. For over a decade, he has composed music for leading theater and dance companies, including Laterna Magika, Spitfire Company, Dekkadancers, 420People, Losers Cirque Company, the South Bohemian Theatre, and the Klicpera Theatre. He curated his theatrical repertoire into the albums Musica Teatrale I and Musica Teatrale II, featuring meticulously re-edited and remastered selections from his stage projects. In 2025, he expanded this series with La dolce vita - musica teatrale III, the official soundtrack to the acclaimed dance-theater production by Dekkadancers. Continuing his prolific collaborations, Šikl is set to release the joint album Directors with Tomáš Dvořák (aka Floex) on October 30, 2026.

Beyond the stage, his music has enriched numerous radio plays, audiobooks, and documentary films. As a drummer, he is an active member of the progressive jazz group Zabelov Group and the world music project Korjen.
