Jan Šikl
Composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Jan Šikl began studying composition at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and completed his studies under Otomar Kvěch at the Prague Conservatory. His work spans several genres, from classical music through jazz, world music and traditional folk to music for stage and film. His compositions have been performed by Orchestr Berg and the South Bohemian Philharmonic, among others, as well as by the Epoque Quartet, and he has arranged for the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), Unique Orchestra and other ensembles. As arranger and conductor he is part of the Floex Ensemble project. The core of his work, however, lies in music for the stage. Over more than a decade he has written music for leading theatre and dance companies including Laterna Magika, Spitfire Company, Dekkadancers, 420People, Losers Cirque Company, the South Bohemian Theatre and the Klicpera Theatre. His stage compositions are collected on two albums, Musica Teatrale I and Musica Teatrale II, featuring carefully re-edited and remastered pieces from his theatre projects. Beyond the theatre, his music has appeared in numerous radio plays, audiobooks and documentary films. As a drummer he plays in the progressive jazz band Zabelov Group and in the world music project Korjen.
